Multi-Tongue Pet Seat Belt

The Dog Life pet seat belt features three different tongue's to match different vehicles brands, country of use, ages, and types including airline travel.
The metal component at the end of a seat belt that clicks into the buckle is officially called the tongue (or latch plate). It is designed to slide smoothly into the buckle housing and lock securely into place to restrain the occupant.

The Universal Seat Belt Restraint is an ideal solution for keeping your dog safe and secure in the car.

The simple 30-60cm adjustable strap has a trigger hook at one end for connection to any dog harness, and the universal adapter is easily secured by plugging straight into the existing seat belt socket.

The belt is made from strong material and is fully adjustable in length, ensuring a good fit for dogs of all sizes.

This method of restraint should only be used with a body harness correctly fitted to your dog, and should never be connected to a collar.

Key Benefits of the Dog Car Safety Belt

  • Prevents Movement: Keeps your pet safely in place, preventing them from roaming the car, which can be a dangerous distraction while driving.
  • Enhanced Safety: In the event of sudden braking or an accident, the belt helps to secure your dog, reducing the risk of injury to them and other occupants.
  • Fully Adjustable: Easily customisable length (45-70cm) with metal sliders to fit a wide range of dog sizes and provide the correct tension.
  • Strong & Reliable: Features a robust karabiner clip and durable 25mm wide webbing for secure attachment to your dog's car harness.
  • Comfortable Travel: Allows your dog to sit or lie down comfortably while remaining safely restrained.
  • Easy to Use: Simple to click into your car's seat belt buckle and attach to your dog's harness.

MUST be clipped on to a dog's harness and not a collar.

Multi-Vehicle or Multi-Dog: The pack of three is ideal for outfitting multiple family cars or securing more than one canine passenger.

Triple Adapter: Truly Universal Fit

The car end of the restraint features three different metal adapters on a shared ring, ensuring compatibility with virtually any car seat belt buckle. Simply use whichever adapter fits your vehicle:

  • Rectangular slot adapter: Fits the most common seat belt buckle style found in the majority of mainstream cars.
  • Rounded/teardrop slot adapter: A narrower profile with a rounded base, compatible with buckle geometries common in many European and Asian vehicles.
  • Hook/notched tab adapter: A shaped tab with a notch cut into it, designed for buckles with a locking pin or alternative internal mechanism.

The Highway Code states: "When in a vehicle make sure dogs or other animals are suitably restrained so they cannot distract you while you are driving or injure you, or themselves, if you stop quickly. A seat belt harness, pet carrier, dog cage or dog guard are ways of restraining animals in cars."

Restraint is key:

Just like we click our seatbelts for every journey, our four-legged companions need proper restraint in the car too.

Do dogs in cars have to be restrained?

Not only should they be secured for their safety, it is also a requirement by UK law.

Rule 57 of The Highway Code states: When in a vehicle make sure dogs or other animals are suitably restrained so they cannot distract you while you are driving or injure you, or themselves, if you stop quickly. A seat belt harness, pet carrier, dog cage or dog guard are ways of restraining animals in cars.
Failing to follow the Highway Code could result in being considered to be driving without due care and attention.

An excerpt from our A Guide To Pet Travel in the U.K. blog post.

Breaking the Highway Code doesn't carry a direct penalty, but drivers could still be pulled over for driving without due care and attention. This can result in a maximum fine of £2,500 and nine penalty points. If an unrestrained pet has caused an accident, insurers are unlikely to pay out.
